Isaiah58 is a project inspired by the words of God, spoken through an Old Testament prophet - Isaiah. There and throughout the Bible, God clearly shows his heart for justice and for those who are in need. He wants us to be active in our faith serving people in practical ways.
It’s all very well hearing about God’s love for us and how we should share that through our lifestyles, but it’s often hard to know how. Isaiah58 will involve and encourage young people to serve in their local communities. We aim to help engage young people with the community, hopefully building bridges between social and age groups.
Isaiah58 operates on a village community basis, so there is a different co-ordinator for each village running the scheme. Young people can get involved with just one team or work across the villages.
Whatever the need is within the local community, we want to help there; whether it’s an elderly person who needs their garden taking care of, or a single parent whose fence has fallen down. The labour is free, however, if we need materials or skips, then they’ll need paying for by the person who is having the work done.
The project is Christian based and run, however, those participating do not have to be Christians. We simply hope that in our actions and conversations, we can share the love and grace that has been given to us by Jesus Christ, which is the inspiration for our work.
