Home Community WCCYM in the community
A key part of WCCYM's work is in the local community, in particular local schools. We believe God loves everyone, not just those who go to church on Sunday, and so we go to where people are to share that love as appropriate. Since WCCYM started in 1992 we have had strong links with Comberton Village College, the local secondary school. Over the years we have helped with youthwork, sport, drama, music, residentials, as well as assemblies and RE lessons. We also work closely with village churches to link with local primary schools, again helping with assemblies, residentials and other lessons & activties as requested. We are (or have been) involved in open youth clubs and sports coaching across villages. We have also recently launced Isaiah58 - young people serving the community in practical ways.

Crossover is the place to be at lunchtime if you're at CVC. An opportunity to eat your lunch with your friends, play some games, chat about life and issues, learn something about God, and be encouraged in your Christian journey. We meet in the Geography Department (usually Room GE3) on Tuesday lunchtimes (for Years 7-9) and on Wednesday lunchtimes (for Years 9-11). C U there!

Since it started in 1992, WCCYM has had close links with Comberton Village College (CVC). The college has over 1300 students from Yrs 7-11. Our staff work alongside the college directly supporting CVC organised activities (eg assemblies, residentials, etc) and through activites run as an affiliated society of CVC Community Association. Youthworkers from WCCYM and local churches have helped with 1:1 mentoring, lunch-time supervisions, and join with Comberton Christian Focus - a group for Christian staff and CVC. We also run Crossover, the Christian Union meetings on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes. We also run occasional special events at Comberton Leisure, on CVC premises. In addition, Steve (WCCYM team leader) is now the keyboard tutor for the Yamaha Music School at CVC.

In the last year we have run two Romance Academy group, both been a brilliant sucsess, thank you to those young people who have taken part.
Great news it doesn't stop there, we are running our third group this term. Romance Academy is a challenge to everything you think you know about sex, love and relationships. Could you be committed to a group and take a 15 week pledge of no sex? As part of the course the group will go on a team building weekend away, possible dates for this are 24th - 26th Oct '08. Sessions will be run on various subjects to do with sex and relationships such as boys/ girls views, media, drugs and alcohol, abortion, babies- you even get an electronic baby for a weekend! and more.....
We will be holding an audition eveinig on Sunday 21st Sept 6-7pm at the Ark in Cambourne. The group will run in the Ark on Monday afternoons 4-6pm, hoping to start 29th Sept. If you are interested in taking part then please email either Charlotte Gould or Jon Sanders. Even though Jon and Charlotte are Christians this is not a Christian project, you do not need to be part of a faith to take part.

Where were you on Friday evening, 13 June? For the 80+ young people (not counting leaders) who went punting that evening, it is likely to be an evening they won't forget quickly. The weather stayed dry, some people got wet, a great evening - followed by BBQ at Newnham park where, because of the numbers we didn't get as much to eat at the BBQ as we would have like. Thanks to Mark Coulson for running off to the garage to get some fish fingers and chicken burgers to help feed a few more hungry people. Then games and chill on the park, including get the frisbee stuck in the tree - oh no, Chilvers' basketball is now also stuck in the tree. As far as I know we everything and everyone eventually returned home safe and sound.
See you at Summer Thirst?
